Without faith, one fails to see the possibility of true justice. The undercurrent of fear that one’s civilization is in its death throes isn’t unfortunately, likely to bring out the best of those who never took the time to get off of their couches and take meaningful action. We can only hope the popularity of the film is simply due to the effects of social media and its tendency to amplify that, which is often unworthy or unreasonable.

I've not watched that movie and have relatively little taste for the revenge genre irrelevant of political leanings, but I did have had the displeasure of having to sit through Anderson’s One Battle After Another on a research retreat. It has zero redeeming qualities, a terrible plot, unbelievable and bland characters, boring action scenes and yet somehow manages to drag out that psychological torture to almost three hours. The blatant, eye-roll worthy agitprop is just the icing on the cake. This makes it rather difficult to take the rest of the article seriously.

As a disclaimer I have not watched the film, but I did watch Boll talking about it. How ever low the quality of the film is, what none of the leftist movies can offer is an actual moral catastrophe being addressed. The highest quality of movie making, which has nothing to say, is easily outclassed by mediocrity and failure, which tries to earnestly address something.

And Boll is trying to address something, he is pretty clear about that. What he is addressing is a justice system, specifically the German justice system, which is openly and proudly shielding violent gang rapists from any sort of consequence and repeatedly downplaying, if not outright ridiculing, girls getting abused and raped.

The cases are so obviously insane that if I tell people about them they will just deny that this could ever happen and reflexively invent reasons why this does not happen, that the facts of the case have to be wrong etc. Perpetrators, caught on video and identified by DNA, raping and robbing a 14 year old and getting of with probation. No doubt that they did it. No doubt that they knew this was rape no doubt about literally anything. Yet, some judge decides that this is not worth any real punishment.

This is the issue Boll is addressing. And no matter how bad he may be as a film maker, it is very hard in the face of these moral failures to see in him anything, but someone trying his best to engage with this grave matter.

Sir, you don't seem to know about us, who we are, what we stand for, and what our political beliefs are. And it doesn't seem like you really read the article either.

While that is your full right, I would advise you not to embarrass yourself because you don't like self-criticism within the right. It's not a good look for whatever camp you seem to be defending.

With kind regards, David Boos, Editor-in-Chief, formerly at The European Conservative, Statement and Tichys Einblick
